350 years of the first mention of the Dobretići parish

On Sunday, July 31st, the parish of Dobretići celebrated 350 years since its first mention. A monograph and a postage stamp were issued for this important community anniversary.

The solemn Holy Mass celebration was led by the parish priest in Sokoline and the parish administrator in Vrbanjci, OFM Juro Aščić, the oldest priest in the Pouga region, with the concelebration of OFM Jure Tokalić and seven other priests.

In an appropriate sermon, OFM Juro emphasized the survival of the people and perseverance in love for the homeland. He said that the people of the Pougarje region readily accepted the sacrifice and had an unshakable faith, which preserved them.

The liturgical celebration was animated by nuns from different societies, who are natives of Jajce, Podmilačje and Dobretići regions.

After the Holy Mass in the church, the presentation of the monograph by the editor OFM Drago Bojić Župa Dobretići u Pougarskom Kraju, published at the beginning of June 2022, was held.

The celebration continued in the courtyard of the church, where a postage stamp printed for this occasion by Croatian Post Mostar was presented.

This was followed by a folklore of cultural and artistic societies from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.

By the way, the parish of St. Anthony of Padua in Dobretići was created by the separation from the parish of Jajce and belongs to the Archdiocese of Vrhbosna. The current church, built in 1973, was looted and destroyed in the last war, and the people were forced to leave. Today, there are 223 believers in 15 villages, and the presence of a large number of believers for the celebration of the patron saint is an indication that the people do not forget their homeland and always return to it.

A century since the death of the local "saint"

On Saturday, July 30th, in the town of Orašac, the parish of Dobretići celebrated the 100th anniversary of the death of Jozo Furundžija, who is revered by the people as a saint of that region. A bronze memorial bust, the work of Denis Dražetić, an academic sculptor from Ljubljana, of Pougarje origin, was revealed in the cemetery where he was buried, along with other believers. The Holy Mass celebration on that occasion, with the concelebration of the parish priest OFM Jure, was led by rev. Dejan Ilić, son of this region, parish priest in Nova Bukovica in the Diocese of Požega.
