On the feast of St. Joseph, on March 19th, in Bugojno, the 28th anniversary of the release of Croatian detainees from the Stadion camp was marked.
The gathering began at the Sultanovići city cemetery, where wreaths and lighted candles were laid, and the parish administrator in Bugojno, OFM Ivica Pavlović, prayed prayer for the dead. Afterwards, Holy Mass was served in the church of St. Anthony, which was led by the director of Caritas of VN, Dr. Mirko Šimić.
In his homily, rev. Mirko connected the private St. Joseph and the present time and the role of the father of the protector of the family. He pointed out that the Bible especially values peacekeepers, as well as those who are persecuted. "Well, that is the logic I want to express to you today who have suffered here in Bugojno and who have felt this human hatred and what it means to darken the mind and that it is necessary to rise above it, live and spread love. Be brave, be persistent, continue to have confidence in Jesus Christ who went to the cross for the salvation of man”, said rev. Šimić and encouraged to make Jesus’ death on the cross a consolation “because we know that the Resurrection comes after death”.
Let us remind you, 550 Croats passed through the camp Stadion, of which 294 prisoners spent a full eight months in it. From there, 19 were taken into the unknown and liquidated, and another 15 Croats are still missing.
