On the memorial day of Blessed John Duns Scotus, November 8th, the highest educational institution of Bosnia and Herzegovina – the Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo – celebrated its Day.
The program began with a Holy Mass in the oratory of the monastery of St. Paul, celebrated by the retired auxiliary bishop of Banja Luka, Msgr. Marko Semren, OFM, with the concelebration of about 15 priests, including the provincial of Bosnia and Herzegovina, OFM Zdravko Dadić, and the dean, OFM Josip Jozić.
In his homily, Msgr. Semren recalled how the patron of the Franciscan college in Nedžarići and the greatest Franciscan teacher and thinker, Blessed John Duns Scotus, "teaches" even today, especially in light of the eight hundredth anniversaries in the Franciscan Order: from the confirmation of the Rule, through Christmas in Greccio, receiving the wounds at La Verna, composing the Canticle of the Creatures to Francis's death.
"Francis's movement in the Church is a gift of God's grace, not a human work. This is the fruit of Francis's complete openness to the gospel, his sincere search for God and his readiness to fully realize the gospel in his life", explained Msgr. Semren, noting that "instead of 'imposing' himself on God, Francis gives God the opportunity to act in him and through him". Addressing the students, he encouraged that "a student will be perfect when he is like a teacher".
The liturgical celebration was animated by the choir of theologians, Fra Nenad Dujić, under the direction of OFM Emanuel Josić.
This was followed by a ceremonial academy, at which Maestro Josić gave a presentation on the Phenomenon of Sound. Among other things, he emphasized that sound is actually an experience of irresistibility. "A sound is an irresistible 'call' to a firm union with the one who produces it. The irresistibility of the sound experience is a pleasant incentive to unity between God and people", emphasized OFM Emanuel.
The Franciscan Theology Day had one peculiarity, namely that this year, due to a new method of production in Zagreb, no diplomas were awarded. However, the names of this year's graduates were read out at the ceremony: OFM Anton Selitaj, OFM Driton Hajdaraj, OFM Tonći Šarić, OFM Matej Juričević, OFM Dario Laštro and OFM Tomislav Vidović.
After that, the dean awarded the best students with special awards, and the following were awarded: OFM Benjamin Vrdoljak (average 9.00), OFM Noa Strinić (9.18), OFM Dario Laštro (9.37), OFM Matej Juričević (9.56), OFM Ante Pavić (9.63), OFM Tonći Šarić (9.75) and OFM Ivan Pilić (9.82).
The ceremonial academy was musically highlighted by the young pianist Luna Kovač.
It should also be noted that, as part of the celebration of Franciscan Theology Day, a memorial document was presented on November 7th on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the birth of Msgr. Semren, entitled The Herald of the Word of God and a Franciscan Educator.
