Memorial Day of Bl. Martyrs of Drina in Goražde

On the Second Sunday of Advent, December 10th, in Goražde, a Holy Mass was celebrated in the still unfinished church, the memorial day of Bl. Drina martyrs, five nuns who were killed by Chetniks in 1941 in the town on the Drina River.

The Eucharist in the church dedicated to these blessed women was celebrated by the archbishop of Vrhbosna, Msgr. Tomo Vukšić. The celebration was concelebrated by several priests, among whom was the parish administrator of the Goražde parish of St. Dominic rev. Josip Tadić.

In the sermon, Msgr. Vukšić underlined that every believer is a "church under construction" and a "temple of God". Pointing to the example of St. John the Baptist, he spoke about the messages of this saint and underlined that Advent is not a "one-way street", but a "two-way street" in which not only the feast of Jesus' birth is expected, but also "the feast of our rebirth".

"That this form of conversion and encounter with God is possible and achievable in human life is evidenced by the Martyrs of Drina. They and all other Christian martyrs are proof that holiness is possible and achievable in human life," said the archbishop.

After the Holy Mass, those present headed to the memorial of Bl. Drina Martyrs, which is located next to the Drina River where the archbishop prayed the obituary.

By the way, the memorial day of these nuns, who were beatified in Sarajevo in 2011, is celebrated on December 15th.
