Revealing of a memorial plaque for those killed

On May 15th, in Proslap, in the parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Rama-Šćit, a memorial plaque was blessed for those killed and missing from this place in the Second World War, the post-war period and the last war.

The Eucharist was led by the Auxiliary Bishop of Vrhbosna in peace, Msgr. Pero Sudar in concelebration with several priests, among whom was the parish priest of Rama, OFM Andrija Jozić.

Before the beginning of the Hola Mass, OFM Andrija pointed out that three years of Rama’s history turned black: 1687 (relocation of Rama people), 1942 (burned, looted, and people killed) and 1968 (displaced and flooded). He said that 158 people died in Proslap during the Second World War, and that 150 families or 494 people had to move out during the construction of the dam. Then 162 names from the plaque were read by Josipa Markešić, and it was revealed by the oldest resident Jozo Milas.

In the sermon, Msgr. Sudar pointed out that “for one who believes and trusts in God, indeed, everything can be turned into celebration.” “Everything can turn into God’s victory, with one single, not at all easy condition, if he fights evil with all his human strength and with all the power of faith”, said Bishop Sudar, adding that “only in this way will we be disciples of Jesus”.

At the end of the Holy Mass, the President of the Organizing Committee and the originator of the idea of erecting a memorial plaque, Ivan Filipović, addressed the audience.

After the Eucharist, a gathering of locals and guests was organized.
