Sv. Elijah celebrated in Stolac

Stolac parish celebrated its patron saint, St. Elijah the Prophet on July 20th. Central Mass celebration, led by Msgr. Zdenko Križić, Bishop of Gospić-Senj, with the concelebration of about 20 priests, was held on the outer altar in front of the Pastoral Center.

The parish priest, rev. Rajko Marković, greeted those present. In a commemorative homily, Bishop Križić placed St. Elijah as a role model to all who believe in one God, and invited the world to live in Elijah's faith that is fearless and hard.

Several thousand faithful attended the Holy Mass, and the Eucharist was animated by a large parish choir called Mladi. Then followed cultural and music program of the local Folklore Society, socializing and refreshments. On the same evening, a number of people gathered at the parish church for the “Ilindan” concert by Miroslav Škoro.

For this celebration, which is also Stolac Municipality Day, the faithful prepared themselves with a triduum.
