On “Little Easter”, April 16th, in Trusina near Konjic, in the parish of Žitače-Podhum, the 30th anniversary of the murder of 24 Croats from that region, committed by members of the BiH Army, was marked.
In the presence of relatives of the murdered persons and other believers, as well as representatives of the authorities and associations of volunteers and veterans from the last war, the prayer for the deceased near the monument was led by the parish priest of Obrim and Solakova Kula, rev. Marin Marić.
Then the Eucharist in the parish church of St. Anthony of Padua was also led by rev. Marić with the concelebration of four priests, among whom was the parish priest OFM Ivica Karatović.
In the appropriate sermon, rev. Marin spoke about "hope which is the foundation on which the righteous person relies" and that "trial and violent death can be a celebration". He explained that it’s been cried out for justice for 30 years and asked the Risen Christ "to help us read the Easter faith in the cross, but not in a vow of revenge, but in peace whose foundation is justice and truth".
Let us remind you that among those killed on April 16th, 1993, there were mostly civilians who were killed in different locations, and members of the HVO who surrendered. Unlike the massacre of Bosniaks in Ahmići that took place on the same day, and where UNPROFOR and the camera crews of major international television stations promptly appeared, the surviving Croats of the village of Trusina never received media attention for their murder.
