Organized by the Municipality of Kupres and veterans' associations originating from the Homeland War, April 10th marked the 29th anniversary of the suffering of the Croatian people on the Kupres plateau.
The program entitled U spomen žrtvama hrvatskog naroda na kupresu (In Memory of the Victims of the Croatian People in Kupres) began with the laying of wreaths at the memorial of the Croatian people for all the victims of the Second World War and the Homeland War in Kupres. Wreaths were laid and candles were lit by numerous delegations of associations from the last war, Croatian political parties, municipal and county authorities, as well as representatives of Kupres's “friend” cities.
After that in the church of the Holy Family, a Holy Mass was served and prayers for the dead were prayed for all those killed and buried on the Kupres plateau, led by the parish priest of Kupres, Rev. Tomislav Mlakić, with the concelebration of several priests.
Let us remind, that only two days after the establishment of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO), Kupres fell on April 10th and 160 soldiers were killed or disappeared in the fighting. Kupres was liberated in early November 1994.
