The Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Bijeljina on August 22nd, on the feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of All Creation, celebrated its patron saint.
The Holy Mass was led by the parish priest in Boć, rev. Filip Maršić concelebrating with the parish priest of Bijeljina, rev. Andrej Lukanović, dean of the Brčko deanery and parish priest in Brčko, rev. Damir Ivanović and the director of Caritas in BiH, Msgr. Tomo Knežević.
After the biblical readings and the proclaimed gospel, rev. Maršić delivered a sermon in which, among other things, he encouraged those present to imitate Mary, who is man's greatest advocate with her son and saviour Jesus Christ.
After the Holy Mass, there was a gathering in the parish yard.
By the way, the church designed by Josip pl. Vancaš was completely renovated in 2019. The Commission for Preservation of National Monuments of BiH declared it a National Monument in 2015. On the eve of the celebration of the patron saint in 2021, the building was “newly dressed”.
The religious community located in the northeast of BiH has about 100 believers.
Finally, let us add that this was the first church built in 1886, ie five years after the renewal of the regular church hierarchy in BiH.
