Adherence to the regulations is the task of every believer and priest

Due to the coronavirus pandemic to all priests, monks, nuns and believers in the Mostar-Duvno and Trebinje-Mrkanj dioceses, Bishop Msgr. Petar Palić sent a commemorative circular on October 31st.

At the beginning, he mentioned that since March, a total of more than 8,000 people have fallen ill in the territory of the Herzegovina dioceses, and about 130 people have died. He especially pointed out that these numbers are increasing and pointed out that health care is running out of energy. Recalling that the colder days are coming, when the spread of the infection is expected, he brought a few guidelines.

He pointed out that parish priests are obliged to warn believers about the permissible number of people indoors and ensure that this number is respected. With regard to wearing the mask, he pointed out the need to respect the decisions of the Crisis Staff.

The sacraments that require hand contact, such as the anointing of the sick, will not be distributed by the priest in gloves but by dipping cotton in Holy oil and applied to the forehead and hands, and Holy Communion should be distributed exclusively on the hands. Holy confession should be done in larger rooms.

For religious education, he stressed the need to harmonize with the regulations of the ministries, that is, when children go to regular classes, religious education should be held.

Asked about the period of Advent and the celebration of Christmas and the blessing of houses, he said the instructions would be timely in line with the development of the pandemic.

In the end, he prayed God, through the intercession of the heavenly protectors St. Joseph and St. Michael, to free mankind from this temptation.
