Anniversary of the Bishop’s ordination of msgr. Dr. Tomo Vukšić


Benedict XVI., on February 1st 2011, founded the Military Ordinariate for BiH, and named the general vicar of Mostar-Duvno diocese and the professor of KBF in Sarajevo, rev. Tomo Vukšić, as first military Bishop. He was ordained for a Bishop on April 2nd 2011. in the cathedral of Mary Mother of Church in Mostar.

Ordination of a Bishop was performed on April 2nd by three Bishops of BiH: the Archbishop of Vrhbosna cardinal Vinko Puljić as a leader, msgr. Dr. Ratko Perić, the bishop of Mostar-Duvno and Apostolic manager of Trebinje-Mrkan and msgr. Dr. Franjo Komarica, bishop of Banja Luka. There were about 20 priests who concelebrated.

Rev. Tomo Vukšić was born in 1954. in Studenci , the Diocese of Mostar-Duvno.

He was ordained a priest in 1980. in Studenci. Then he was a parish vicar in the cathedral in Mostar. He got his Master’s degree of ecumenical theology at the Pontifical oriental institute (1984.) and canon law at the Urbaniana (1986.). At the Pontifical oriental institute, he got his PhD in 1991., on the topic Relations between Catholics and Orthodox in BiH from 1878. to 1903.  

He was a Head of Theological Institute in Mostar; teacher at the Theological Institute in Dubrovnik; vice-rector of Theology University in Sarajevo; judge vicar in Mostar-Duvno diocese; director of Catholic news agency BK BiH (1998. – 2005.); member of Committee for application of the Basic Agreement between the Holy See and BiH; general vicar of Mostar-Duvno diocese and professor of patristics and ecumenical theology in Mostar and Sarajevo. He is fluent in Italian language, and knows German and French.

He is the author of numerous and valuable publications in theology, canon law, history of the Church, modern questions
