A ceremony was held in Vitez on the eve of September 18th to mark the 28th anniversary of the founding of the HVO Vitez Brigade.
On this occasion, in the parish church of St. George, the Holy Mass was celebrated for all the dead members of this brigade and civilians, led by the parish priest OFM Velimir Bavrka.
After the Holy Mass, at the memorial statue in front of the municipality building, flowers were laid and candles lit by brigade warlords led by Brigadier Mario Čerkez, representatives of political, legislative and executive structures at the municipal, county, federal and state levels. led by Boris Matjanović and Marina Pendeš. The same did the representatives of the families of fallen veterans, representatives of associations from the Homeland War and representatives of the AF of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After this, an academy was held in the Croatian Home, where the chronological summary was read - a reminder of the difficult war path of the Vitez Brigade, which left a positive mark on the defence of Vitez, the Lašva Valley, Central Bosnia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
653 HVO members and Croat civilians were killed in the defence of Vitez alone, most of them members of the HVO Vitez Brigade. More than 2,000 members were injured.
The first line-up of the troops in Croatian uniforms at the local football field in Šantici near Vitez was organized on September 18th, 1991., which was selected as the Day of the establishment of the HVO Vitez Brigade.
