Anniversary of the killings in Maglice

In place Odornica, next to the memorial, on October 8th, Holy Mass was organised for all the killed in Maglice in October 1942. With the presence of relatives and friends of the killed, the Eucharist was led by the guardian of the Franciscan monastery and the parish priest in Rama-Šćit, OFM Andrija Jozić.

Although Rama has been a casualty throughout history, what happened on October 8th 1942. will remain in its history as the greatest tragedy.

As part of the Italian operation Alpha, Chetniks from the Mostar and Konjic Centre, as their allies, killed more than 1 000 unarmed civilians in three days. The first Rama’s village on their bloody march was the village of Maglice, where, in just a few hours, with the robbery and arson, they killed 24 locals. 18 men were brought to Odornica and were either shot or slaughtered, and six more in the wider area of the village.

To preserve the memory of innocent victims, in 2007., several relatives launched an initiative to erect a memorial, which was done a year later. After the memorial was erected, a Holy Mass is served every year for all killed people.

Also, on Sunday, October 13th, the courtyard of the monastery in Šćit was a place of prayer for all the victims whose names were inscribed on the memorial at the foot of the Rama Cross, 1 529 of them.
