Anniversary of the martyrdom of sister Danka Jurčević

On Sunday, September 27th, in the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Kakanj, a Holy Mass for the soul of the murdered sister Danka Jurčević was led by the parish priest rev. Žarko Vujica, with the concelebration of the retired priest Msgr. Petar Jukić, a long-time parish priest in this religious community and a witness to the crime.

Rev. Žarko in his sermon, commenting the Holy Mass readings in which the son refuses his father's invitation to go to the vineyard but later changes his mind, said: “How many times do we find ourselves in a similar situation to choose between good and evil?”

“How did the one who was preparing the murder of sister Danka not change his mind and give up his evil intentions?”, asked rev. Žarko and called on those present to “choose obedience to the Father” in their daily decisions.

At the end of the Holy Mass, those present were greeted by Msgr. Jukić who emphasized that he comes to Kakanj every year to remember the sacrifice of sister Danka because the Church must not forget its martyrs and witnesses to the faith.

The Eucharistic celebration was animated by the parish choir led by sister M. Angela Zirdum.

After the Holy Mass, those present visited the place where the nun was killed, which is located near the church, and the city cemetery where her earthly remains rest.
