The 27th anniversary of the murders of OFM Nikica Miličević and OFM Leon Migić, former guardian and vicar of monastery in Fojnica, was marked with a requiem mass in the monastery church of the Holy Spirit in Fojnica on November 13th.
The Eucharist was led by the Guardian of Fojnica, OFM Mirko Majdandžić, who in his sermon pointed out that those gathered were praying for the killed friars, but also for all those who gave their lives for freedom.
“OFM Nikica and OFM Leon were examples of Bosnian Franciscans who saw all people as brothers and sisters, and spread faith, love and hope. OFM Nikica was convinced that the monastery was safe, that no army could attack the monastery and the Fojnica area, because he believed that all people were good, that all were brothers and sisters and that they treated each other that way”, said OFM Mirko pointing out that a terrible crime had happened after all.
He further stated that it is the human duty to preserve crime from oblivion “not in order to provoke hatred, but in order for future generations to know about OFM Nikica and OFM Leon, and about their holy mission”.
The anniversary of the murder of the two friars represents a painful memory for the entire monastery area, which is reinforced by the fact that the perpetrators of this terrible crime have not yet been found or prosecuted.
