Believers celebrate their patron St. George


On April 23rd, the parish of Morančani near Tuzla celebrated its patron saint - St. George. The Eucharistic celebration in humble conditions due to the coronavirus pandemic was led by the parish priest on Cer near Derventa, rev. Jozo Batinić.

In addition to the local parish priest, rev. Ivo Paradžik, four other priests concelebrated.

Rev. Jozo, who is the parish priest in Morančani, in his homily introduced the life of St. George the Martyr and spoke about the Communion bread - the blood and body of Christ, which has gathered believers around the world for 2 000 years. He further explained how Jesus willingly gave himself for man’s sins and promised on the cross to the right-wing robber that he would “walk with him in paradise on the same day”, while rebuking another who did not accept the atoning sacrifice he witnessed.

About 100 believers were present at the celebration of the patron saint, and the celebration of the Holy Mass was animated by the parish choir.

The Eucharist was followed by a modest socialising.

Parish church of St. George in this parish was built in 1913. and has been renovated several times. The religious community today has about 1 500 souls in 500 families.
