Bishop of Mostar-Duvno and Apostolic Administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan, Msgr. Petar Palić during the solemn Holy Mass on the feast of St. Francis, October 4th, consecrated a new church in Humac.
About 20 priests concelebrated, among whom were the Provincial of the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina, OFM Miljenko Šteko, and the Guardian, OFM Dario Dodig.
At the beginning of the Eucharist, the bishop blessed the church and all present and reminded them that on this occasion “we remember our baptism by which we became members of the community of believers, the living Church”.
After the homily, the bishop coated all four sides of the altar with the oil of confirmation. Then the church altar was “dressed” in Easter white colour and candles were lit, symbolizing light and enlightenment.
“What makes the church a holy place and the Father’s house is this liturgical act of consecration and what happens after that”, explained Msgr. Palić noting that the church, the altar and the Christians in that way renewed, become new in Christ and for Christ. “He is our true church and altar, so this place tells us about Him”, the bishop emphasized after the consecration of the altar.
By the way, this liturgical act is of great importance for the religious community in which the old church was consecrated back in 1903.
