Blessing of the statue and the academy in honour of OFM Anđelo Zvizdović

On the 800th anniversary of the meeting between Saint Francis and Sultan Malik al-Kamil, a commemorative program was organized in Fojnica on September 13th and 14th. On this anniversary, the friars also mentioned 555 years since the meeting of OFM Anđelo Zvizdović and Sultan Mehmed al-Fatih.

The celebration began on September 13th with the blessing of the statue of OFM Anđelo Zvizdović in front of the Franciscan monastery in Fojnica, by the author Mile Blažević.

This was followed by an academy Hommage to OFM Anđelo Zvizdović in the hall of the Reumal Hotel in Fojnica.

History professor at Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo, Ph.D. OFM Marko Karamatić delivered a lecture titled The Meeting of the West and the East. “While some idealize Ahdnama as a human rights charter, others completely devalue it by calling it a ‘collaboration with the occupier’. Both approaches are an attempt to falsify history”, OFM Marko said.

The central event of the Academy was the play The Trial of OFM Anđelo Zvizdović, performed by Franciscan theologians.

Apostolic nuncio to BiH Msgr. Luigi Pezzuto participated in the program in Fojnica, as well as Auxiliary Bishop of Banja Luka Msgr. Marko Semren, provincials and envoys of Franciscan provinces from Slovenia, Croatia, BiH, almost all the guardians of the monasteries of Bosna Srebrena and other guests.
