Cardinal celebrates Eucharist with prisoners

On Thursday, November 28th, Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Vinko Puljić led a Holy Mass at the Penitentiary in Zenica.

The visit to Zenica Prison began with a Holy Mass in the Prison Chapel celebrating St. Jacob’s day. At the beginning of the celebration parish priest of the parish of St. Joseph in Zenica, rev. Marin Marić, welcomed the 30 convicts present and expressed his gratitude and welcome to the Archbishop.

In a commemorative homily, the cardinal emphasized the importance and need for the co-creation of life following the example of Jesus Christ. He reminded those present that no matter what their situation, they had the dignity and grace of the faith they received through baptism. He encouraged them to have a look focused on the judgment of God awaiting every man, and expressed to them his closeness, which, as he emphasized, he wanted to testify to the mercy of God and his call to all to repentance.

The Holy Mass was followed by socialising with a cup of coffee during which the prisoners had the opportunity to ask cardinal Puljić questions and speak to him, and each of them received a rosary as a gift from the cardinal.
