The Feast of Divine Mercy in the parish of the Ascension of the Lord in Novi Travnik was celebrated on April 24th with an evening Holy Mass led by the Vicar General of the VN, Msgr. Slađan Ćosić.
Concelebrating with him were rev. Marko Majstorović and a dozen other priests.
In the homily, Msgr. Slađan said that “it is necessary to allow God’s word to teach us in wisdom so that we do not live as mediocre or bad believers”. Reflecting on the Holy Mass readings, he asked, “How good are we and are we at all good at proclaiming and witnessing the Gospel?” Giving a negative response to this question, he said: “First of all, we wish that on our hands ‘many miracles’ happen(…) We forget that He Himself performed many miracles, and yet most people did not believe in Him.” Explaining how the Gospel is announced by life, he finished his homily with the words of encouragement that Sunday of Divine Mercy is to be a constant reminder that mercy needs to be life and a moral imperative.
The Holy Mass was followed by a procession through the nearby streets with a picture of the Merciful Jesus and the relics of St. Faustina Kowalska and Bl. Mihaela Sopoćka.
The celebration was preceded by a spiritual renewal, and this feast was also the patron saint of the Society of the Sisters of the Merciful Jesus who work in this parish.
