Parish of St. Elijah the Prophet in Solakova Kula near Konjic celebrated its patron on Sunday, July 18th.
The Eucharistic celebration in the parish church (in the village) was led by the local son, rev. Ivo Tomić, parish priest in Uzdol. With him in the concelebration was the parish priest rev. Ivan Ivančević, who also delivered a sermon.
In it, he said, among other things, that the worship of certain Old Testament great persons was accepted by Christians, and among them a special place is occupied by St. Elijah. He then looked back at the biblical readings and pointed out three important things: God’s miraculous treatment of those who have experienced failure and disappointment in life; Elijah and God’s method of prophetic ministry, and God’s treatment of people. “Today we are like the prophet Elijah. God is calling us to stop failing and start all over again. We must not be thunder and lightning, but God’s goodness and gentleness”, said rev. Ivančević.
By the way, the parish of Solakova Kula is located in the Rama deanery. It was badly damaged in the last war and its believers were mostly displaced. Therefore, the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Elijah is used for celebration so that more believers could participate.
