On September 15th, the religious community in Čardak near Modriča solemnly celebrated its heavenly patron - Our Lady of Sorrows. On the same day, the parish celebrated 60 years of existence and 10 years since the dedication of the church.
The Holy Mass in the parish church was led by the archbishop of Vrhbosna, Metropolitan Msgr. Tomo Vukšić. About 20 priests concelebrated, including the parish priest in Čardak, rev. Ivan Dragičević, as well as the dean of the Dobor deanery and the parish priest in Odžak, rev. Ilija Orkić.
In the appropriate sermon, Msgr. Vukšić pointed out that the nature of the holiday of Our Lady of Sorrow is quite different from all other Marian holidays and memorial days. On the trail of that, he explained that the other feast days of Our Lady celebrate events from her life or marks that accompanied her in the history of the salvation of the human race. He mentioned some of them: Birth, Annunciation, Immaculate Conception, Ascension... He emphasized that these are all events, and on the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, "we remember her deep sense of sorrow that she felt at the foot of the cross". He then noted that Christianity is not only history, but also the present and the future, that is, permanent living, the permanent presence of the Lord. Emphasizing that Jesus has risen and there are no more Pilat’, courtrooms, false witnesses and the injustices of that time, he underlined that, nevertheless, the "trial" against Christ is still being conducted today and has been conducted throughout all of human history.
At the end, he noted that Jesus still lives in his Church through the sacraments, but, he added, also "through the way of our lives to the extent that we agree to live by his rules."
At the end of the Holy Mass, parish priest Dragičević thanked those present for coming, especially his predecessors who worked in the parish before him and the nuns of the Servants of the Little Jesus who work in the territory of the parish. Then two parishioners, one of whom was in national costume, they thanked Msgr. Vukšić and presented flowers and a special gift.
Finally, let's add that this parish was created in 1963 by separating from Modriča and Gradačac. However, the church and convent of the Sisters of the Handmaids of Little Jesus have existed since the beginning of the 20th century, when nuns and priests were present in this area.
