The central Eucharistic celebration was led by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Vinko Puljić in concelebration of a large number of priests from the surrounding parishes, Sarajevo and Zenica.

At the beginning of the Holy Mass, those present were greeted by the parish priest, rev. Marko Majstorović. Quoting the hymn of the morning prayer of the Hours of the Feast of the Ascension “... A shining cloud hid him from the sight of eager disciples, but the firm faith alive present, sees us everywhere...”, rev. Majstorović said that “today many clouds want to hide the One who rose and ascended to heaven. Therefore, a living and firm faith is needed so that we can watch it everywhere and in everyone present. That is exactly what we want to pray for today - for a living and firm faith.”

He addressed a special greeting to the General Superior of the Society of the Sisters of the Merciful Jesus, sister Joanna Kwiatkowska, her deputy, sister Bernarda Sural, sister Paulina Lepage and sister Nicodema Rewa, who came from Poland.

Liturgical singing was animated by parish choirs under the direction of their leaders.

After the Eucharistic prayer, words of greeting and thanks were given by sister Joanna, head general of the Sisters of the Society of the Merciful Jesus, saying that the sisters are only an extended hand of the Merciful Lord who never ceases to bless and be a source of mercy to the whole world. The sisters want to be that by their actions in this parish and that is the reason for their step into the unknown.

On behalf of the parish, the sisters and the Cardinal were presented with appropriate gifts.

After the Holy Mass blessing, the priests and the faithful headed in procession to the convent of the sisters. Accompanied by several priests, the Cardinal blessed the nunnery, while the others accompanied the blessing with a song in the sister’s yard.

This was followed by socializing and a snack for all present and lunch for the guests.

Two more Holy Masses were celebrated on the patron saint of the parish which were led by: father Anto Topić, parish priest of the parish of St. Ignatius in Sarajevo, and rev. Marcel Tunjić, parish vicar of Novi Travnik.

The parish community prepared for the celebration of the patron saint with a three-day service. On the first day, the Holy Mass was led by rev. Željko Marić, rector of the Vrhbosna Seminary Petar Barbarić in Travnik, and for the other two days Msgr. Slađan Ćosić, Vicar General of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese.

Liturgical singing on the three-day period was animated by the parish choir, and the children’s choir Zrakice Milosrdnog Isusa had a concert of spiritual songs.

Let us remind that a few months ago, in the parish of the Ascension of the Lord, sister Damaris Wyrostek and sister Frančeška Kwiatkowska from the Society of the Sisters of the Merciful Jesus began their pastoral work.
