Celebration of the patron saint of the Basilica of Duvno

Holy Mass on the occasion of the celebration of the first canonized Croatian saint and patron of the Duvno Basilica - St. Nikola Tavelić in Tomislavgrad, was led on July 10th by the bishop of Mostar-Duvno and apostolic administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan, Msgr. Petar Palić.

At the beginning, the parish priest of Duvno, OFM Slaven Brekalo, greeted the crowd of present believers.

In an appropriate homily, Bishop Palić spoke about the many Christians and martyrs who are still suffering in the world today because of their faith. In addition, he emphasized that if people still want to be Christ’s followers today, then they can expect nothing but “opposition” and “bad winds”, and that “Jesus marked our path with his life”. He encouraged believers to be missionaries like St. Nikola Tavelić because “Jesus' mission is not limited to only 12 disciples - to each of us Jesus sends an invitation to follow”.

At the end of the Holy Mass celebration, the Guardian of Duvno, OFM Sretan Ćurčić, congratulated the faithful. He greeted all the pilgrims, those who helped organize this celebration; who took part in the celebrations and other events of spiritual, cultural and entertainment content through the manifestation Days of St. Nikola Tavelić “because there was something for all ages and classes”.

After the Holy Mass, an entertainment program followed in front of the basilica.

Let us mention that the Eucharistic celebration was preceded by a solemn procession through the city with a statue of St. Nikola Tavelić, who was carried by members of the group Hajdučka družina Mijata Tomića.
