Celebration of the patron saint of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese and of the Sarajevo Cathedral

On Sunday, June 21st, the patron saint of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese and the Sarajevo Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was celebrated.

On that occasion, the solemn Holy Mass was led by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Vinko Puljić, and the Archbishop Coadjutor of Vrhbosna Msgr. Tomo Vukšić.

The concelebration was attended by: the Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Msgr. Luigi Pezzuto; Bishop of Banja Luka, Msgr. Franjo Komarica; Bishop of Mostar and Duvno and administrator of the Trebinje-Mrkanj Msgr. Ratko Perić and about 10 other priests.

At the beginning of the Holy Mass, greeting words were said by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna Vinko, noting that the Pope wished the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to be the day of consecration of priests.

The celebration of the Holy Mass was animated by the singing of the mixed cathedral choir led by rev. Marko Stanušić.

The Archdiocese of Vrhbosna was placed under the protection of the Heart of Jesus by its first archbishop, Dr. Stadler, after the restoration of the regular church hierarchy in 1881. Although this feast is always on Fridays, the external celebration of the patron saint of this local Church is regularly held on Sundays, which gives the celebration an additional character of celebration.
