Completion of the reconstruction of the parish church in Bosansko Grahovo


In Bosansko Grahovo, in late 2018, planed work of the parish church of St. Elijah the Prophet in the village of Obljaj was finished.

This phase of reconstruction included facade works, replacing old wood window frames on the bell tower with new aluminium and interior plastering. All the works on the renovation of the church was done by the construction company Marušić from Jajce.

The Church was restored exclusively by means given to parish Grahovo through public invitations in 2017. and 2018. by the state, entity and county ministries: the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Federal Ministry of Displaced Persons and Refugees, the Ministry for Refugees and Displaced Persons RS and the Ministry of Science, Education, Culture and Sport of HBŽ.

The Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments of BiH, in 2001., included the Parish Church of St. Elijah the prophet in Bos. Grahovo on a temporary list of national monuments. The old parish church in the last war in BiH was mined and completely demolished in 1992. by then Serbian military and civil authorities. At that time, another Catholic church in the municipality of Bosansko Grahovo was demolished, the one in the village of Uništa.

After the war, the parish church was rebuilt, exclusively by means of benefactors from abroad, so the newly-built church - at the same place where the old one was - was devoted in 2002. Because it was not fully completed then, the reconstruction finishing was started in 2018.

This year, the interior decoration of the church is planned, and the windows will be decorated by stained glass, the work of academic painter Svetislav Cvetković from Široki Brijeg, and they are the first to be made in a special workshop of the Academy of Fine Arts in Široki Brijeg.
