On Sunday, September 1st, at the Church of St. John the Baptist, 70th anniversary of the arrival of the Sisters of the Daughters of God’s Love in Travnik was celebrated. On this occasion, the celebration was presided over by Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Vinko Puljić.
The 11 a.m. Mass was celebrated by cardinal Vinko Puljić with the concelebration of rev. Marko Mikić, parish priest of Travnik’s parish of St. John the Baptist and Dean of the Travnik Deanery, venerable Željko Marić, Rector of the Seminary in Travnik, venerable Marko Majstorović and OFM Slavko Petrušić.
At the very beginning, rev. Mikić sent welcoming words to all those present, but in a special way to the sisters celebrating the anniversary.
In a commemorative homily, cardinal Puljić, spoke about how, at the invitation of the first Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Servant of God, Josip Stadler, the sisters first came to Sarajevo from Vienna and then spread to other areas of BiH. He then commented that it was not easy for the sisters to act in these areas after World War II, as he said, they were even forbidden to wear their nun’s uniform. He said that despite that, they came to Travnik for a job in a nursing home, only under one condition - that they wear their religious garb. He added that it had not been easy for them in the last war as well.
At the end of the Holy Mass, a representative of the Sisters of the Daughters of God’s Love in Travnik, sister Anđela Brkić, addressed everyone.
The Chief of the Province of Divine Providence, sister Gordana Igrec, also addressed everyone. She thanked the sisters for the presence they confirm and their cherished home and the work they do. She added that this year, apart from 70 years of sisters in Travnik, is also marked the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Province of Divine Providence, which spans on the territory of six countries and has 250 sisters. “A special thank you to all the sisters who are active in this city today: sister Anđela, sister Suzana, sister Svjetlana, sister Zora”, said sister Gordana Igrec.
The mass celebration, attended by a large number of people, was animated with their singing and playing, by the choir of the Travnik parish of St. John the Baptist.
