On the holiday of St. Luke, on October 18th, the Catholic Faculty of Theology (KBF) of the University of Sarajevo celebrated its heavenly patron with a Eucharistic celebration and a solemn academy.
Holy Mass in the seminary church of St. Cyril and Methodius was led by the great chancellor of the KBF, Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Tomo Vukšić. About 30 priests concelebrated, among them the dean of the KBF, rev. Mario Bernadić, vice-rector of the Vrhbosna Theological Seminary Dr. Ljubo Zadrić and vice-dean for teaching and students of KBF Đakovo Dr. rev. Boris Vulić
Msgr. Vukšić, in his homily, reminded of the Jubilee of 2025 in the entire Catholic Church and therefore encouraged believers and communities to prepare spiritually. He emphasized that St. Luke, more than other evangelists, places prayer at the centre of his gospel.
"If you are a theologian, you will really pray, and if you pray, you are really a theologian (for example: Gregory of Nasianus and Evagrius Ponticus). In other words, their message is: either the Church will create its best theology again and live on its knees, or it will close itself in learned and boring debates about a distant God, which are regularly useless and dangerous because they distance people from God", said Msgr. Vukšić.
After the Eucharist in the Hall of Paul VI. an academic act followed. The ceremony began with the singing of the hymn Gaudemaus igitur performed by the Vrhbosna seminary theological choir. Then Dean Bernadić presented the work of the KBF in the past year, highlighting various projects, scientific meetings and three published books: The Book of Tobias: translation and commentary by Dr. Mato Zovkić, In the service of God's people: a guide to parish administration and regional law by Dr. Ilija Marković, published by the KBF in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Vrhbosna, and the Neochalcedonian Christology of Leonicius of Jerusalem by Dr. Josip Knežević.
This was followed by the welcoming speeches of the great chancellor, Msgr. Vukšić, Rector Dr. Tarik Zaimović and Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Dr. Adna Mesihović.
The lecture: Parish catechesis. The repainting of the old signposts with a bad colour, was held by the provost of the Cathedral capitol of Vrhbosna, dr. msgr. Pavo Jurišić, professor of religious pedagogy and missiology. He recalled the development of catechetical transmission of faith in the area of the archdiocese and pointed out the numerous obstacles that appeared during this process, especially during the communist regime when religious education was expelled from schools.
After the lecture and music, the promotion of masters of theology followed. The following were promoted: Marijana Rosan, Augustin Barković (in absence) and Marin Petrović, who also received the grand chancellor's award. The dean's award for best performance was awarded to student Nikolina Jukić. The dean's award for the best written work was awarded to Marin Petrović (Active participation in the liturgy: The mystery of encounter in the Eucharistic celebration). Awards were also given to non-teaching staff: Nikolina Tomšić and Marijo Jurišić for their exceptional work.
