Day of the Sarajevo Catholic Theological Faculty


On Monday, October 18th, the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Sarajevo celebrated its day - the feast of St. Luke with an Eucharistic celebration and with the Litanies to the Holy Spirit for the beginning of the new academic year.

Holy Mass in the seminary church of St. Cyril and Methodius was led by the Grand Chancellor of this higher education institution - otherwise the oldest faculty of the University of Sarajevo - the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Vinko Puljić, together with the Dean of the KBF, Dr. rev. Darko Tomašević; Rector of the Vrhbosna Theological Seminary, Dr. rev. Zdenko Spajić and about 20 other priests.

At the beginning, those present were greeted by Dean Tomašević, and then by Cardinal Puljić.

At the end of the Holy Mass, which was animated by the choir of theologians of the Vrhbosna Theological Seminary Stjepan Hadrović, under the direction of Rev. Marko Stanušić, followed the Invocation of the Holy Spirit for the beginning of the new academic year.

After the Holy Mass in the hall Pavle VI. a solemn academic act was organized, moderated by KBF employee Mario Jurišić, and the program began with the singing of the student anthem Gaudemaus igitur led by soprano Katarina Kikić, with piano accompaniment by Davor Ljubić.

Dean Tomašević then addressed the audience, especially greeting cardinal Puljić, colleagues from the academic community: the Rector of the University of Sarajevo Dr. Rifat Škrijelj; deans OFM Danimir Pezer from Franciscan Theology, Vice Dean for Teaching and Students of KBF in Đakovo Dr. Suzana Vuletić and other gathered deans, professors and guests.

As usual, he then briefly presented the activities and work of this higher education institution in the last year, thanking all the benefactors, and with special gratitude remembered the former professors of the Sarajevo KBF who passed away: Dr. Ante Brajko and Dr. Marinko Perković.

Afterwards, the Grand Chancellor of the KBF, Archbishop Puljić, and Rector Škrijelj addressed the audience.

This was followed by a lecture by Dr. rev. Ilija Marković on the topic Formation of pastoral workers in the light of Amoris laetitia for good resolution of marital situations.

The promotion of new masters of theology followed. During the past academic year, 14 students at the Sarajevo Catholic Theological Faculty obtained the title of Master of Theology: Nilson Gerardo Andrade Ibarra, Branimir Bevanda, Mislav Anton Botica, Filip Čeliković, Ilija Jurić, Zvonimir Kosić, Domagoj Matijević, Ivan Matijević, Ivan Mijać, Nikola Nikolić, Josip Papak, Tomislav Rajič, Marko Tunjić and Damir Vrbešić.

Out of a total of 14, eight of them received diplomas from Dean Tomašević, while the rest were justifiably excluded.

Awards were also given - the Grand Chancellor and the Dean: The Dean’s Award was given to the most successful student in the past academic year, Stipe Gabrić, for an average of 9.77. The award for the best final work went to Mag. theol. Ilija Jurić, and the Grand Chancellor’s Award as the student who achieved the best success in the entire study, with a grade of 9.85, was given to Mag. theol. Ivan Matijević who will also be the winner of the Golden Badge of the University of Sarajevo. The academy ended with a joint photo shoot and a reception.
