Deacon’s ordination of eight candidates

The Bishop of Mostar and Duvno and the Apostolic Administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan, Msgr. Petar Palić, on November 21st, in the Mostar Cathedral of Our Lady of the Church, gave the Holy Order of Deacons to four candidates of the Mostar-Duvno Diocese and four members of the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina.

Concelebrating with Bishop Palić, among others, were the Provincial, OFM Miljenko Šteko, and the Vicar General of the Herzegovina’s dioceses, rev. Željko Majić, and about 20 other priests.

After the reading of the Gospel, the candidates for the Holy Order of Deacons were called: Ivan Aničić, Branimir Bevanda, Tomislav Rajič, Vinko Nenadić, OFM Marko Bandić, OFM Tomislav Crnogorac, OFM Džoni Dragić and OFM Antonio Primorac.

Msgr. Petar then sent a homily in which he pointed out in a special way the tasks of deacons and emphasized that they will best witness their ordination if they live by the example of Jesus Christ, the supreme Shepherd and if they witness their faith with their own lives in today's world.

The homily was followed by inquiries to the ordained and the litany of All Saints. A blessing prayer and the laying of hands followed.

After the ordination rites, the present parish priests helped the ordained to put on the deacon's uniform – dalmatic. Then they received the Evangeliary - the book of the gospel, and then approached the altar offering gifts for the Eucharistic service.

At the end of the Holy Mass, the Provincial, OFM Miljenko, thanked the Bishop for the act of ordination. He sent expressions of joy and congratulations to the families of the new deacons, the ordained and all those who accompanied them during their growing up and schooling.

The Holy Mass was animated by the Cathedral Choir Marija.
