Dedication of the parish church in Gradina

Apostolic administrator of Mostar-Duvno and Trebinje-Mrkan Msgr. Ratko Perić, on August 28th, dedicated the parish church in Gradina.

The ceremony was held during the evening Holy Mass on the eve of the patron saint of this parish - the Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist. In addition to the parish priest rev. Đuro Bender, about 10 other priests concelebrated.

At the beginning of the Eucharist, Bishop Perić said a blessing prayer over the water with which he sprinkled the people and the walls of the church. He then anointed the altar with holy oil, and authorized the parish priest to anoint with the same oil 12 small crosses that are attached to the walls of the church.

In the appropriate homily, Msgr. Perić spoke about the fate of the Jewish temple, which lasted in interruptions and demolitions for about 1,000 years, from 960 BC to the year 70 AC. He then presented the life of St. Augustine in the transition from a sinful state to the heights of holiness thanks to the grace of God that was prayed for in a special way by his holy mother Monica. Finally, he preached about John the Baptist and how he was beheaded for obeying God's law.

The celebration of the Holy Mass was animated by the singing of the parish choir.

The patron saint's celebration was preceded by a Triduum.

Although the parish church was built more than 50 years ago, it has not been consecrated (dedicated) so far, but only blessed.
