Easter Monday in the Shrine of St. John the Baptist

In the Shrine of St. John the Baptist in Podmilačje near Jajce in front of more than 1 000 believers, the solemn Eucharist on Easter Monday, April 5th, was celebrated by the Definitor and Economist of the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena, OFM Nikica Vujica.

The guardian of the Jajce monastery, OFM Vinko Marković, concelebrated together with four other priests, among whom was the parish priest, OFM Filip Karadža. OFM Žarko Lučić, guardian at the shrine of our Lady of Pojišan in Split, a native of Podmilačje, preached.

In his homily, OFM Žarko pointed out that many people today unfortunately lack the strength to believe in Christ as God and man, and continued that Jesus “glorified the Father in heaven with his glorious resurrection, showed his divine son’s power and gave a chance to all who believe in him to participate in his glory - his own resurrection and victory over death”.

After the Eucharist, the faithful continued to socialize with the usual cracking of Easter eggs and a joyful meeting with their close ones.

By the way, Easter Monday is traditionally celebrated in Podmilačje, where, in addition to local believers, pilgrims from all over the Jajce region also participate. Despite the pandemic, an open-air celebration was held this year as well, on a large outdoor altar, respecting the precautionary measures.
