On Sunday, October 31st, in the parish and Our Lady’s shrine in Komušina, the October devotion was traditionally concluded with a solemn Holy Mass on the Kondžilo hill.
Numerous believers already began to gather in the morning in the centre of the parish - near the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and then a procession was formed. It was led by the Archbishop Coadjutor of Vrhbosna and the Apostolic Administrator of the Military Ordinariate in BiH, Msgr. Tomo Vukšić, and the faithful carried a miraculous image of Our Lady of Kondžilo, and together they prayed the rosary and sang Marian songs. Upon arrival at Kondžilo there was an opportunity for the sacrament of confession.
The Holy Mass was led by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Vinko Puljić, along with Archbishop Vukšić, parish priest and guardian of the shrine, rev. Boris Salapić and about 10 other priests.
At the beginning of the Holy Mass, gathered were addressed by parish priest Salapić, who reminded that all the faithful of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese were invited to this October pilgrimage with a threefold intention: the first for the local Church in these challenging times; the second for the success of the First Synod of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese, which aims to restore everything in Christ, and the third for the spiritual needs of all gathered.
In his sermon, the cardinal explained that, unlike the previous ones, this year they gathered on the last Sundays of October, not Saturdays, because the last session of the Synod of the Vrhbosna Archdiocese was held the day before under the motto Renew Everything in Christ. “If there is an opportunity to renew everything in Christ anywhere, then it is on this hill Kondžilo. You know very well that Our Lady has received the task from Jesus Christ to accept us as her children. That is why, praying to Our Lady's rosary, we want to be close to Mary so that she can help us to truly experience what Jesus Christ deserved with his birth, suffering, death and resurrection, and that is our salvation”, said cardinal Puljić.
He then recalled the story of a priest to whom an older lady told about her conversation with a granddaughter to whom she told how she was contemplating death. “After her granddaughter told her that she had been talking for 10 years about preparing for heaven because her life was coming to an end and asked if she was sure that God would receive her up there, she replied that she was sure that God would receive her to heaven because she has loved God all her life and she is sure that God will not reject her love. - Blessed is such faith and certainty that God will not reject her love (...) We have come to Our Lady to teach us how to listen to God and hear God's word and do his will. We came to this hill Kondžilo to pray that everything be renewed in Christ”, emphasized, among other things, Archbishop Puljić.
The Eucharistic celebration was animated by members of the cathedral mixed choir Josip Stadler, under the direction of rev. Marko Stanušić.
After the Holy Mass, those gathered also returned on foot to the parish church, where the pilgrimage was concluded with prayer and blessing and socializing with refreshments.
Let us mention that on Saturday, October 30th, in the pastoral hall, the book of rev. Šimo Maršić, director of the Archdiocesan Centre for Youth Pastoral Care Ivan Pavao II., Dragi lik tvoj nek’ nas posvud prati! (May your kind character follow us everywhere!), was published for the 50th anniversary of pilgrimage of the youth to Komušina.
