At this regular annual commemoration, which is celebrated on the last Sunday of August, the parish priest, rev. Bono Tomić concelebrated. Greeting those present, OFM Tomić pointed out that the cardinal "knows well what war and human suffering are".

In the appropriate sermon, Cardinal Puljić first interpreted the Holy Mass readings in which he explained that Christ did not establish the Church as an organization, but as an organism - a living body, of which Peter became the head. He further spoke about giving respect to those who laid down their lives in defence of their fellow men. He explained that life is the most sacred thing and that all people are called to protect it from conception to death. Following this, he mentioned the unjust laws that allow the killing of the unborn and the old and infirm. Emphasizing that the Živinice area is soaked in blood, but people today do not know how to appreciate it, he encouraged the creation of an atmosphere of equality and respect for all.

Families of the dead and representatives of associations from the last war took part in the Eucharist, and they laid wreaths at the memorial.

By the way, about 500 soldiers passed through the HVO battalion, 23 of them lost their lives, including six Bosniaks.
