As part of the Missionary Year in BiH, on the first day of the Extraordinary Missionary Month, October 1st, on the Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux, the patron saint of missions, the Eucharist celebration at the Convent of the Immaculate Queen of Carmel in Sarajevo was led by the national director of the Pontifical Missionary Works of BiH, Msgr. Luka Tunjić.
Together with him concelebrated father Krešimir Djaković, parish priest of the parish in Grbavica. Before the Holy Mass celebration, the worshipers of St. Therese and the Carmelite sisters prayed a missionary rosary for all missionaries around the world and for the awakening of the missionary spirit in all believers.
In his sermon, Msgr. Tunjić, answered the questions why, according to Pope Pius XI., St. Little Therese is the greatest saint of modern times, and why she, who in her short religious life did not step outside the walls of Carmel, was proclaimed by the same Pope as the patron saint of missions, and proclaimed by St. John Paul II. a Church teacher.
After the Holy Mass, Msgr. Tunjić blessed the roses around the painting of St. Little Theresa and encouraged the believers to take them home.
The Mass celebration was animated by sister M. Julijana Djaković, Provincial sister superior of Sisters of Mercy of the Province of Mother the great in Sarajevo, and two poems to St. Little Theresa were sung together by the Sisters of Mercy and the Sisters of Carmel.
