KSC "Sv. Josip" celebrated School Day

The Catholic School Center "Sv. Josip" (KSC) in Sarajevo celebrated its Day on March 18th with a Holy Mass in the Church of the Queen of the Holy Rosary and an event in the Centre’s hall. The central motto was the words "Through the Eyes of a Child".

The Holy Mass was led by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Msgr. Tomo Vukšić, with the concelebration of eight priests, including the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Vrhbosna, Msgr. Slađan Ćosić, the director of the KŠC "Sv. Josip" in Sarajevo, Rev. Mario Ćosić, the rector of the Church of the Queen of the Rosary, Rev. Darko Endrich, and other priests. The Holy Mass celebration also brought together numerous employees and students from the KSC's primary and secondary schools.

Dimensions of Holiness

In his sermon on the occasion, Archbishop Tomo spoke about Saint Joseph, who, like other saints, through his life, words, and actions offers the faithful of the Church of Jesus a multitude of different levels of his own holiness and examples that they could and should reflect on and which, after reflection, should be applied in their own lives.

He spoke about three dimensions of his holiness, each of which is inspiring in its own way.

"First of all, Saint Joseph is a blessed man who is incredibly humble and modest before the Word of God and completely obedient to it. At that moment, when he is convinced that the voice he heard is truly the voice of an angel from heaven, Joseph is ready to change all his life programs and plans, and not only hear the Word of God, but also transform himself into one who is obedient to the Word of God in the following days of his life (…) In this sense, he is truly an inspiration and an example for imitation, literally, not only for us gathered here tonight, but for the entire Church of Christ. Therefore, it is necessary that in the humility of our consciences each of us ask ourselves and answer in silence before the face of God: 'Am I the one who has truly listened to the Word of God and obeyed that Word of God, that is, turned it into my everyday life? Is the Word of God the rule of my days? Are the words of God the guide of my plans and intentions?'", said Msgr. Vukšić encouraging with his word on reflection.

As another dimension of holiness, he emphasized that St. Joseph, from the moment he understood and accepted the Word of God until the end of his days on this earth, placed himself at the service of Jesus Christ and his work and his stay on this earth. "During the period when he lived together with Jesus, he was in his service. He placed his life at the service of Christ the Savior, because the word of the angel announced it to him", the Archbishop of Vrhbosna reminded, encouraging the faithful to ask themselves again: "At the moment when we accepted, listening to the word of God, that Jesus Christ is the Saviour and Liberator of his people from their sins, did I put my abilities, my talents, at least in some part, at the service of Jesus Christ and his rules and his Gospel?"

As the third dimension of the holiness of St. Joseph, he highlighted his attitude towards work. "In general, especially in modern civilization, work is viewed as one of the values that serves or is in the service of human life and human needs. But, viewed from a Christian perspective, work, although it is that, is not only that. The difference between the union view of work and the Christian view of work is that Christianity makes a step forward. Because work is not only a means, as we Christians believe, for our survival, for maintaining a dignified life for ourselves and our families, for the development in the material sense of this world, but it is work in direct cooperation with God the Creator", explained Msgr. Vukšić, emphasizing that laziness is therefore a sin, and in conclusion, calling on those gathered to obey the Word of God, to put their abilities and talents at the service of Christ the Saviour, and to dedicate themselves to work, which is one of the ways of our salvation.

The Holy Mass celebration was animated by the boarding school choir under the direction of Prof. Ana Andrle-Imamović.

Appropriate performances

Then, a performance was held in the KSC hall, the central motto of which was the words Očima djeteta (Through eyes of a child), modelled on the verse of the song Zemlja (Earth) by the musical group Ekatarina Velika (EKV).

The hosts were Isabella Vrsalović and Mateo Gradac.

First, a minute of silence was held in honour of the victims of the fire in North Macedonia, and then the Choir of the Elementary School, the General Secondary School, the Medical School and the instrumental ensemble under the direction of Prof. Andrle-Imamović performed the KSC Anthem of Š. Marović. Then, the principal Rev. Ćosić gave words of greeting and welcome and thanked the students who, together with their teachers, had prepared the appropriate program.

Then, the choir of the upper grades of the Elementary School performed the song Kad bi svi ljudi na svijetu (If only all the people in the world), followed by a stage performance of the text by Prof. Klaudija Mlakić Vuković Hoću stvarni život (I want a real life).

The audience could also enjoy the song Kad bi meni dali jedan dan (If I was given one day) sung by the Elementary School choir under the direction of Prof. Nela Đido and reflect on the impact of grades with the stage performance Mi nismo brojevi (We are not numbers) based on the text by Prof. Mlakić Vuković.

Finally, the vocal-instrumental ensemble of the Stup Regional Elementary School under the direction of Prof. Andrea Hadžidedić sang the song Zemlja (Earth) by the EKV group.

Finally, the Archbishop of Vrhbosna addressed the audience and congratulated the performers, students and employees of the Centre on their Day. "If all people, just like all children, looked at this world through the eyes of a child, especially in BiH, it would be much more beautiful", concluded Msgr. Vukšić.
