Memorial Day of Bl. Drina martyrs in the city of their suffering

With a Holy Mass in the chapel of the parish of St. Dominic in Goražde, the memorial day of Bl. Drina martyrs was celebrated. The Eucharist was led by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, cardinal Vinko Puljić, who during the Holy Mass, blessed the bell that will be mounted on the bell tower of the church of Bl. Drina martyrs under construction in Goražde.

The parish priest and chancellor of the Military Ordinariate in BiH rev. Josip Tadić concelebrated. In a media review, the cardinal said that with this Eucharist, Catholics marked several realities and as first mentioned Caritas Sunday. “A Christian must not allow his heart to be poisoned by resentment, hatred or grief that bites a person from within”, he said, referring to the memorial of Bl. Drina martyrs who were killed in Goražde on December 15th 1941.

The Cardinal, priests and a group of pilgrims also visited the memorial to the children of Goražde killed during the last war, as well as the monument to the victims of the Second World War. Then they prayed next to the monument to the Martyrs of Drina and went to the room in the building of today’s primary school, from whose window the Blessed martyrs jumped to death. At the place where their bodies were thrown into the Drina River, they dropped roses.

Let us remind, Bl. Drina martyrs are five sisters of the Daughters of God of Love who were killed by Chetniks out of religious hatred in 1941 in eastern Bosnia. They were beatified in 2011 in Sarajevo.
