The memory of the Bosnian queen Katarina Kosača Kotromanić, who is revered by the people as a blessed woman, was commemorated with an evening Holy Mass on October 25th in the parish of St. John the Baptist in Kraljeva Sutjeska.
The Eucharist was led by the parish vicar OFM Marijan Petričević in concelebration with the guardian of Sutjeska and the parish priest OFM Bono Tomić.
In his homily, OFM Marijan mentioned a few lines from the life of this great woman who died on that very day 544 years ago in Rome. As OFM Marijan reminded, the folk custom of wearing a black scarf on the heads of mourning women is still a living memory of Queen Katarina, just like the crosses that are found at the base of Sutjeska’s embroidery.
The 14th national pilgrimage of the Secular Franciscan Order in BiH was held in Kraljeva Sutjeska on October 23rd. Queen Catherine is the heavenly patroness of all the third orders of both Franciscan provinces - Bosna Srebrena and the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina.
