The Midnight Mass on December 24th in a crowded Sarajevo cathedral, was led by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Vinko cardinal Puljić in concelebration with 15 priests.
At the beginning of the Mass, the Cardinal welcomed the priests, nuns, choir and present believers, and said they had gathered in the cathedral to mark the arrival of the most celebrated Catholic holiday.
“I want all of us to be united in this celebration, in this prayer, in this joyous experience of God born as a little child, and we open our hearts to him with our humility, to truly fill us with his grace, peace and endless joy. In this mood we begin this holy mass”, cardinal Puljić said. He pointed out that this is a special night, because we celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ.
In his homily he found that there is no place for Jesus today.
“Today, many mothers who carry a child under their heart are dismissed by the employer because there is no room for the one who is about to give birth, or even worse, before they are employed, makes it a condition that if they plan to give birth, there is no place for them to work. These are not the stories, these are the facts, and yet we are crying there are no workers, no children”, Puljić said, questioning where did the humanity lost its criteria?
“By not accepting life, not accepting children, not accepting the family, we are actually pushing Jesus out of our surrounding. Although we are proud to say that the culture and technics is advancing, we lost our humanity”, said the Archbishop, reminding of problems that can be heard about migrants, and is reported by Anadolu Agency.
“But they have created the conditions that these people must run away from. The powerful people, they created it. Somewhere humanity has lost the criteria because it does not value man more than interest, profit, and in this globalization, a man is lost. We lost that noble feeling that a man has its own right and dignity. We thought that dictatorship of the proletariat is a past, and we see that everybody who comes to power is conducting his dictatorship. Again, man has no dignity. Only people who are simple hearted, modest and humble, they can understand this secret of God's incarnation and the birth of God's closeness to us and that needs to bring us closer to each other”, he said, and finally concluded that people by celebrating Christmas, they actually recognize themselves, not Jesus.
“We will not add anything to Jesus, but we will recognize ourselves. So, in this globalization where we have lost human, we must find human again. This night is to enlighten man's conscience and heart to find the way to God and the way to himself, a way to the human so we can live humanly again”, Puljić said, and sent Christmas greeting to all believers.
