On Saturday, February 10th, the religious community in Orašje celebrated its heavenly patron Bl. Alojzije Stepinac. The Holy Mass celebration with a procession was led by OFM Josip Mrnjavac, a professor at the Franciscan Classical High School in Visoko, in concelebration with the parish priest, OFM Bono Kovačević, and 25 other priests.
Numerous believers participated, among whom, in addition to local believers, there was a large number of pilgrims from Croatia. In the appropriate homily, OFM Josip pointed out:
"The example of the holiness of Bl. Alojzije Stepinac is particularly important for us Catholics of the Croatian nation because in him, in a truly heroic way, we find concretely realized sincere love for God and man, fidelity to the Church and the truth of salvation that he teaches; sincere love for his people that did not prevent him from equally respecting all people of all races, religions and classes, and the determination to remain consistent in his life - especially in pastoral service during difficult times of war and postwar - to what he believes and teaches." At the end of the homily , following on from the read passage from the Gospel, OFM Josip said:
"Dear worshippers! Just as our Blessed One placed all his trust in God's hands (In Te, Domine, speravi!), faithfully doing what he was called to do, let us put our lives, the present and the future of our nation and homeland, the Church, and the whole world in the same hands of God, and ourselves - taught by the example of the martyr Bl. Alojzije – let’s humbly do what we are called to do as faithful Christians! And may our merciful heavenly Father be our comfort in all our troubles, as well as he was in his. Because, just as there are abundant sufferings that we have to go through in our earthly walk, so the comfort that God gives us in his son Jesus will be even more abundant.
After the Holy Mass, the faithful had the opportunity to pray personally before the powers of Bl. Alojzije Stepinac, which were built into the altar of the Orašje church.
The faithful prepared for the celebration of the patron saint with a three-day program during which Rev. Ivan Živić, parish priest in Gunja and manager of the Šumanovci shrine, Rev. Andrej Lukanović, parish priest in Bijeljina and OFM Pero Baotić, parish priest in Špionica, were the preachers.
The service of the word and the prayer of the faithful were said by mothers with their children, and the Holy Mass celebration was animated by singing by a tambura group from Tolisa and Orašje. At the end of the Holy Mass celebration, all those present prayed the Jubilee Prayer 2025.
OFM Josip Mrnjavac, as well as other preachers, was presented with a reproduction of the picture of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, and parish priest OFM Bono especially thanked everyone who helped and contributed to the beauty of the entire celebration during the novena and on the feast of Stepinčevo.
