Our Lady of Tears celebrated on Bunarić

Archbishop Coadjutor of Vrhbosna Msgr. Tomo Vukšić, on August 29th, led a Holy Mass celebrating the feast of Our Lady of Tears in the sanctuary of the Diocese of Subotica in Bunarić.

In concelebration was the Bishop of Subotica, Msgr. Slavko Večerin and four other priests, and about 2 500 believers participated.

In the appropriate sermon, Msgr. Vukšić pointed out that Our Lady is mentioned 19 times in the Bible, and only eight of her sentences are written. “These records do not mention Our Lady's weeping, but show events from her and Jesus’ life in which she is described either as a caring woman and an amazed mother, or as a seriously worried and grieving fiancé and mother”, said Archbishop Vukšić reminding how from the moment of Simon’s uttered words began a long series of mental pains during the earthly life of Mary. He corroborated this with the events recorded in the Gospel, noting that the peak of mourning occurred on Golgotha. Towards the end of the homily, he expressed his closeness to mothers who had reason to cry over the fate of their children.

During the Holy Mass, a dozen priests were available for confession.

The Holy Mass in Bunarić is one of the largest annual gatherings of Croatian Catholics in Vojvodina. It is held every year on the last Sunday in August.
