Patron of a small returnee community

On Friday, April 23rd, the parish of St. George in Derventa celebrated its heavenly protector.

On that occasion, the central Holy Mass was led by the parish priest and guardian of Plehan, OFM Anto Tomas. The concelebration was attended by the parish priest of Derventa, rev. Marko Slišković and two other priests.

In his homily, OFM Anto said that the resurrection of the community of believers in Derventa took place with the return of the parishioners, their prayer and material renewal. „St. George, as the protector of this community, primarily to its members, but also to all of us who are connected in any way with Derventa, confirms with his life that it is good to be God's”, said the preacher and then spoke about the life of soldiers-martyrs from the first centuries of Christianity. He especially pointed out that it is possible to imitate St. George even today.

About 50 believers participated in the Holy Mass, including pilgrims from Plehan, Koraće, Bijelo Brdo, Slavonski Brod and Zagreb.

The Holy Mass on the eve of Thursday, April 22nd, was led by the parish priest.
