Patron of the parish of Bl. Alojzije Stepinac

The only parish in the Vrhbosna Archdiocese dedicated to Bl. Alojzije Stepinac - in Orašje, celebrated its heavenly patron on February 10th.

The Holy Mass was led by the parish vicar in Tolisa, OFM Pavo Filipović, in the concelebration of about 30 priests, together with the parish priest, OFM Bono Kovačević.

In his homily, OFM Pavo emphasized the persecution of Cardinal Stepinac. “Even today, they are attacking him with the blackest mud”, he said, reminding them that Stepinac was in favour of the freedom and independence of the Croatian people. “Shouldn't a Catholic bishop stand up for the freedom of his people with regard to religion and nation?”, asked OFM Pavo and explained that blessed Stepinac was against any sort of oppression of people no matter where it comes from, which is, among other things, reason of his beatification.

The Holy Mass was animated by the Adoro choir under the direction of prof. Marija Nedić.

The religious community was preparing for the patron with a novena, and the triduums were led by the parish vicars from Tolisa – OFM Ivan Mijatović, from Zenica - OFM Stjepan Antolović, and from Ovčarevo - OFM Stjepan Lukašević. On the third day, the blessing of the children was organized.

The religious community in Orašje has 1 088 parishioners in 417 families. It was established in 2006. by separating from Tolisa, and belongs to the Šamac Deanery.
