Patron of the Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows

On the day of Our Lady of Sorrows, on September 15th, the patron saint of this religious community was celebrated in Čardak, a place in the municipality of Modriča, in Bosanska Posavina.

The Holy Mass, with the concelebration of 20 priests, was led by the parish priest in Derventa and the administrator of the parishes of Bukovica and Bijelo Brdo, rev. Marko Slišković. At the beginning, those present were greeted by the parish priest of Čardak, rev. Ivan Dragičević.

In the appropriate sermon, rev. Slišković first interpreted the Holy Mass readings and reflected on the mother and the suffering woman, but also on the sad Mother of God. He then approached the meaning of the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows and wondered “have we found similarities with our mothers”. During the mosaic homily, he pointed out that sorrow and suffering cannot bypass ordinary people, just as neither can Our Lady and Jesus, and asked God to “multiply faith so that the meaning of sorrow that every man carries can be understood”.

The Holy Mass was also attended by 12 Sisters Servants of the Little Jesus, led by the Provincial Superior, sister Ana Marija Kesten, and three Franciscan Sisters Missionaries of Mary from Odžak, as well as one Sister of Mercy of St. Vincent De Paul.

After the Eucharist, the celebration continued in the parish yard.
