Patron of the religious and cultural centre of Posavina that is under construction

On the Sunday of the Good Shepherd, April 25th, the parish and monastery of St. Mark the Evangelist celebrated their heavenly patron and on that occasion opened a sales exhibition of works of art and organized the presentation of the book Enciklopedijski rječnik Bosanske Posavine (Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Bosanska Posavina).

The Holy Mass in the new parish church was led by rev. Marko Zubak, director of the Catholic School Centre in Tuzla. Along with the local parish priest and guardian, OFM Ante Tomas, seven priests concelebrated, including the Dean of Derventa, OFM Ivan Marić.

Outlining the life and work of St. Mark, in the homily of rev. Zubak, explained to the believers that this evangelist, in whose every word the risen Christ is reflected, as well as other saints, should be an example of how to follow Christ and spread his Good News.

Aware of what they were going through during and after the last war, he claimed that every person from Plehan could write a book of testimonies about his life, which was not easy at all. He encouraged them to reflect on the life and faith of their ancestors. “The most touching to me is the faith of our fathers and mothers, grandparents, which they passed on from generation to generation, and they were often hungry and thirsty, suffering injustice, but never subdued. Always their heads raised and their gazes directed towards the cross where they found strength. I would be happy if you would leave this place and learn to pray the Lord's Prayer as they prayed it”, said Rev. Zubak. Finally, he called on the faithful to renew their vow of fidelity to God, the Church and their people, and always pray for the intercession of St. Mark, the heavenly protector of this parish.

Guardian OFM Anto at the end of the Holy Mass, which was animated by the singing of musicians from Tuzla prof. Zlatko Špoljarić and Dragana Račić, thanked those present for celebrating the patron saint of the parish and the monastery together with them. He thanked them for all the material and spiritual help and, on behalf of the Monastery Administration, called on them to continue to help build the Plehan Religious and Cultural Centre with their concrete ideas.

Among the participants were representatives of socio-political authorities from BiH and Croatia.

The traditional blessing of the fields was led before the Holy Mass by the Vicar OFM Jozo Gogić.

The Holy Mass was followed by the presentation of the book Enciklopedijski riječnik Bosanske Posavine (Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Bosanska Posavina), by the author mr. Ante Knežević and prof. Tomislav Lukić. Answering the meaningful and significant questions of the head of the promotion, Dr. Tomislav Dubravac, the authors Knežević and Lukić presented this work, which brings 750 entries on 680 pages, 10 000 explained terms in Croatian and English, and all with 1 000 colour photographs.
