Piggy banks for African children

On the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, January 8th, children from the parish of St. John the Baptist in Odžak, brought their mission money boxes to the Holy Mass.

The youngest members of the faith community in Odžak gave up their "coins" during the Christmas days and donated them to hungry children in Africa. The money boxes were brought to the altar for the public Holy Mass, and the parish priest and dean of the Dobor deanery, rev. Ilija Orkić blessed them all together at the end of the Eucharist.

He also thanked them and their parents for their willingness to help those in need, even if they did not know them personally. "It is an act of faith to help people in need in the name of Jesus Christ", said the parish priest in the end.

By the way, the Day of Deeds of Holy Childhood, in connection with the Papal Missionary Deeds, is celebrated on January 6th. The Papal Missionary Work of Holy Childhood has the task of teaching how to help others and to constantly awaken a general missionary awareness among children that they should share their faith and material goods with children from vulnerable areas of the world.
