On the occasion of St. Vincent, Deacon and Martyr, celebrated on January 22nd, Pope Francis sent a name day letter of congratulation to Archbishop of Vrhbosna cardinal Vinko Puljić, through the State Secretariat of the Holy See.
“On the occasion of your name day, I wish you all the good in the Lord, I call on you the protection of St. Vincent and wholeheartedly give the apostolic blessing, extending it to all those who are dear to you”, reads, among other things, a congratulatory note where the State secretary of the Holy See cardinal Pietro Parolin and signed Archbishop Msgr. Edgar Peña Parra, Deputy for general affairs of the state Secretary of the Holy See.
St. Vincent, a deacon and martyr, is a 4th century Christian saint, originally from Zaragoza, Spain. He was an excellent preacher, but he also cared for the poor in his life. He endured martyrdom during Diocletian's persecution.
