Press conference at the end of the 71st regular session of the Bishop’s Conference (BK) BiH


The Bishops of BK BiH held the 71st regular session at the Ordinary of Vrhbosna Archdiocese in Sarajevo on 3rd and 4th November. On this occasion, a press conference was organized on November 4th.

Archbishop of Vrhbosna Vinko cardinal Puljić, President of BK BiH and Military Ordinary in BiH Msgr. Tomo Vukšić and Secretary General of the BK BiH Msgr. Ivo Tomašević, who moderated the conference, spoke about the conclusions of the session at the press conference on November 4th at the Ordinary of Vrhbosna Archdiocese.
 
At the beginning of the meeting, Msgr. Tomašević welcomed the media representatives and read the press release from the 71st regular session of the BK BiH.
He pointed out that all bishops were present at the regular autumn meeting of the BK BiH, and the delegate of the Croatian Bishops' Conference was Msgr. Tomislav Rogić, the bishop of Šibenik, who introduced the most important topics of the 55th Croatia’s Bishop’s Conference plenary session to the present, held from 10th to 12th October in Zagreb.
During the session of the BK BiH apostolic nuncio in BiH Msgr. Luigi Pezzuto met the bishops, and spoke of the importance of strengthening Catholic identity through the knowledge of the past and the Christian roots and the need for ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue.


Msgr. Franjo Komarica, the bishop of Banja Luka, held the presentation about the meetings during his stay in the United States regarding the support of returning of the displaced people to Bosnian Posavina.
The Bishops listened to a report from the on the Monastic’s days that was held on September 9th in Humac, and then the report from the International symposium about the priestly upbringing and education that was held at the beginning of October in Castel Gandolfo, close to Rome.
Taking in consideration the message of Pope Francis for the First World Day of the Poor, the bishops reminded members of the diocesan communities in BiH of the wishes of the Holy Father that Christian communities in the week preceding the World Day of the Poor which this year falls on November 19th, strive to provide moments of encounter and friendship, as well as solidarity and specific assistance.


In accordance with the basic regulations of the BK BiH, it is decreed that for the television, radio and internet transmission of liturgical celebrations, a professional body is to be established. This body will in cooperation with certain representatives of the dioceses and provinces and together with the editors of the program of religious culture of the public televisions and radios at the BiH level, develop a year’s plan and arrangement of liturgical celebrations, taking into account the representation of all parts of BiH and taking care of special celebrations and occasions.
Considering the apostolic letter in the form of the motu proprio of Pope Francis Magnum Principium regarding the translations of the worship books, the bishops gave necessary guidance to the Council for the liturgy of BiH.
Msgr. Tomašević pointed out that the bishops called on the authorities to finally resolve the issue of building a Catholic church in Drvar and expect the authorities in Goražde and Zvornik to provide sites for the reconstruction of churches demolished in or after the Second World War.
At the end of the press release it says that the bishops at the end of the sessions had the Eucharist in the chapel of the Vrhbosna’s Seminary and met with a theological community. The Mass was led by Cardinal Puljić, and bishop Rogić preached the homily.
After Msgr. Tomašević read the report, Cardinal Puljić and Msgr. Vukšić spoke to the gathered media staff. They expressed satisfaction with the arrival of a large number of media representatives. The Cardinal expressed the joy of having a chance to discuss and try to solve certain problems and to think what can be done, with other bishops in BiH three times a year.
 

The President of the Media Council, Msgr. Vukšić, spoke about the formation of the expert body.
 
He emphasized that the plan would be public and that it will be worked in cooperation with the Church's legal regulations. He noted that the list of recommended events and liturgical celebrations for 2018. would be publicly available in time for journalists and media houses to prepare.
At the end of the press conference, the Cardinal responded to questions about the emigration of the young people, the restitution and problems that the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena has with the municipality of Novo Sarajevo regarding the renovation of the building in Kovačići.
