Marking the 29th anniversary of the founding of the 101. Bosanski Brod Brigade of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO), the surviving Croatian veterans and other faithful of Bosanska Posavina, in prayer remembered their killed and missing veterans of that brigade on March 3rd, 426 of them to be exact.
In the parish church of St. Elijah the Prophet in Bosanski Brod, a requiem Holy Mass for the dead, missing and deceased defenders of the first unit in BiH which gave active resistance to the enemy, with the concelebration of four priests, was led by the parish priest, rev. Antonio Čutura.
In the gathering after the Holy Mass in the parish premises, the president of the Association of Volunteers and Veterans of the 101st Brigade, which was also the organizer of the commemoration this year, Ivo Đogaš, emphasized that every year on that day, they remember their bravest knights, who, while defending their homeland were ready for the greatest sacrifice — losing their lives.
4 995 members passed through this brigade, 426 were killed and 1 417 were wounded in combat operations, and several are missing.
The all-day program began in the morning with the lighting of lanterns and the laying of wreaths in the local cemeteries, and Al-fatiha for the souls of the fallen defenders of the Muslim religion was prayed at the cemetery in Kolibe Gornje.
Because a large part of the dead were buried in Slavonski Brod, the second part of the program continued in the afternoon in that town by laying wreaths, lighting candles and praying at the memorial to the killed and missing Croatian veterans, at the city cemetery.
