Remembrance of the victims of World War II and the post-war period


The central event, of the 26th in a row Days of Remembrance for the Victims of the Second World War and the post-war period of the Odžaci and Podvučje region, was held on May 25th in Posavska Mahala.

The organizers were the Department for the Second World War and the post-war period of the HNS BiH, HKD Napredak - Odžak Branch, the parishes of the Dobor Deanery and the Local Community of Posavska Mahala.

The program began in the memorial park for 3 411 killed and missing in the Podvučje region, where delegations from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina laid wreaths and lit candles, and then the parish priest, rev. Mato Majić prayed for the dead. Participants then marched in procession to Nujić Cemetery, where delegations also laid wreaths and lit candles.

A Holy Mass followed in the cemetery in front of the chapel, which was led by the superior of the Society of Jesus in Osijek, father Ivan Ike Mandurić, with the concelebration of the priests of the Deanery of Dobor. In his homily, he focused on the victory of love over hatred, hope over hopelessness and the victory of life.

By the way, as part of the event, which lasted from 18th to 29th of May, numerous spiritual and cultural events were organized.

Let us remind you that a terrible massacre in this area took place on May 25th 1945 in Vlaška Mala (Posavska Mahala) where partisans killed about 500 men.
